Re: [PLUG] CrossOver Office

Other than the eMail client, StarOffice 5.2 works fine and is free. I use it in a mixed environment a lot. It does a decent job reading and writing Word documents, but the weakness -- if it matters to you -- is reading and executing VBA macros in Word templates. It comes with an "autopilot" that offers to convert all of your Word Templates. Problem for me is that my templates are more often code repositories than boilerplate text and stuff. The conversion works fine on the latter, but the conversion of the VBA to StarBasic is incomplete. On the look and feel side, though, I would say that it does a better job of reading and writing WinWord docs than WordPerfect does, and they both run on the same OS.

Well, regarding OpenOffice, it works fine, if a little slowly. Of
course, I only use it for a very few things intended for hard copy
(read: almost never, since I'm not going to print most of the time, and
most of the time when I do print, text or HTML is good enough). YMMV.
It's done everything I've asked it to, but I've never asked it to do
much.
