Binary-only modules (like the Nvidia geforce drivers) taint the kernel. This is to make it clear that once you have loaded such a module, you can't really expect much support from the kernel hackers in the event of bizzare lockups or other evil (asside from "try it without the #@#$#@ binary driver"). Test sound using Realplayer8 and "cat (audiofile) >/dev/dsp" no sound > nor errors? Sounds like something is muted, but don't where to look? Does sound like it is muted, doesn't it? Try running aumix (apt-get it if not installed, of course). Or xmix (for a gui option), or whatever mixer program you like. Unfortunatly, I don't think there is a simple text file to read to show you the state of the mixer.... I'm a newbie, not sure what (IIRC) is. I'm using Debian 2.2r5 stable. > Kernel 2.4.18 Stands for "If I Recall Correctly". -- Will Dyson "Back off man, I'm a scientist!" -Dr. Peter Venkman
