When I run an audio test and "lsmod" again, the (unused) statement is gone for emu10k1, but remains for sound. /etc/modutils/aliases is the file you need to look at. That and /usr/doc/modutils/module-policy.Debian.gz. Oh, and have a look at 'man modules.conf' and 'man update-modules' while you are at it (synopsis: debian generates /etc/modules.conf from the files in /etc/modutils/, so you need to run update-modules in order for changes there to take effect). Is it crucial to have "emu10k1" added to /etc/modules or is that only necessary to make it load automatically at boot?
