Thanks for the info on LILO. So far I have had no luck. I can make a basic boot disk by dd'ing the kernel to it and rdev'ing the root partition but I cannot get it to boot from the hard drive. Once I booted normally from the floppy I changed the boot location in lilo.conf to /dev/hda. After running LILO, which ran normally, it would not boot from the hard drive. This should have written to the MBR. This drive was partitioned with SUSE Yast2 and I have no primary partitions? When I manually run fdisk I see all the partitions, the first is hda, which lists the entire drive, and then hda5 through hda11, which are all logical. hda5 is a small boot, hda6 is swap, hda7 is root, etc. When I use the fdisk toggle boot command it complains about being an extended partition or some such thing but still marks it. My bios at boot just messages like there is nothing on the hard drive. I will look into GRUB. I am using 7.3 SUSE.
