I've been successful establishing PPP connections with a number of Palm 
OS devices (not using an Ericsson phone, but I don't think that has 
much to do with your problem).

You don't give any information as to what you are doing on the Plam 
side to set up the connection.  What are your "Network Preferences" 
settings?
