lilo -u uninstalls lilo and reverts to the previously installed MBR (at least in theory it does that - my experience would suggest otherwise). More likly, you will need to run, from a dos prompt, fdisk /mbr to 'restore' the mbr and make only the first dos partition bootable. From here, you can easily delete the linux parition and reformat it to be something more windows friendly (fat16/fat32). One other way to handle this is to set lilo to auto boot windows after 0 seconds and take linux off the boot menu (you are going to delete it anyway). >From here, lilo just boots windows only. It takes out one step where you could really mess stuff up. just my ideas -brad --- Everybody loves to love you when you're far away -- Better than Ezra, At the Stars -----Original Message----- From: plug-admin@lists.phillylinux.org [mailto:plug-admin@lists.phillylinux.org]On Behalf Of Lawrence Goodman Sent: Monday, 9 September 2002 12:07 PM To: plug@lists.phillylinux.org Subject: [PLUG] Uninstalling Linux A newbie asks: I need to uninstall linux from my computer. I have windows 98 running on one partition, caldera openlinux 2.4 on the other. I created these partitions using Partition Magic. I went to Caldera's website for instructions and was told to "root run lilo -u." Frankly, I am not sure how to do that since I went to the terminal typed "run lilo -u" and was told there was no run command. Also, what do I do after run lilo -u. Can I use Partition Magic to then erase the Linux partition entirely. Do I have to rewrite the boot loader in anyway? My goal is NOT to have to erase the Windows partition. Thanks so much for your help and this website!
