I have brought up a different system here - SuSe 7.3 with bind 8. I have two ethernet interfaces and I connect to the internet via dialup PPP. I do my own nameserving and lookup. It seems that on bootup named starts first, establishes the IP addresses it listens on - which are the localhost and addresses of the two ethernet cards, then PPP dials and connects establishing the internet connection. Since Bind starts first it will not answer queries. If I restart Bind - ndc stop, nds start - all is fine. The log shows it now listens on the PPP IP address. I never saw this on my prior linux with bind 4 and PPP. Is ther something I am missing here? I have tried the listen-on option in named.conf but it only seems to add IP addresses it knows about. Any ideas?
