I had this problem about a year and a half ago with debian and
Ximian. It was painful, and it took a lot of apt-get -f install's to
get things right. I got phantom dependency complaints for quite a
while before things were 100% right. I refuse to touch Ximian anymore,
although I like gnome well enough.

Anyway, I empathize with your sob. You'll get it all back, but it's a
bother.
