Coming from someone who has hosed up a few kernels in his time it sounds like you never did a 'make oldconfig' and then loaded this .config when you were setting up your new kernel. This is what I have found when someone recompiles and things that were once working are now broken. To properly recompile a kernel under Red Hat check out: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-7.3-Manual/custom-guide/ch-custom-kernel.html or look in the custom guide for your version. I use 'make oldconfig' to create a .config of my current kernel. Then I use 'make xconfig' and select 'Load Configuration from file'. In the dialog box just put .config and it will load the one you just made. Now you can add the options you need and not hose up your old ones. Jon -- Trooper Jon S. Nelson, Linux Certified Admin. Pa.
