Fwiw, I'm a salaried Unix/Linux systems administrator, and I work for somewhere between $15-$20 an hour. So yeah, there'd better be. And your Win2k consultants better be Gods at that rate.

Your "salaried" rate completely ignores benefits. Depending upon the company, benefits costs equal about 30% to 60% of base salary.


And for what it's worth, $40K ($20/year) is currently an entry to low mid-level salary in the Philadelphia region. A senior Sys Admin position is in the $60-70K range.

I've been billing $125 an hour for Mac OS X consulting lately, mostly for folks making the transition from OS 9 to OS X -- not even for OS X Server!
