Whoa! I wanted to do this for months (my Linux server clock drifts) but
Google for "Hedemark" and "ntp" and you will find a how-to I wrote a few years ago. Last time I read it I noticed I made a mistake or three so I need to update it but setting up ntpd is actually very easy. Short version: ==== /etc/ntp.conf ==== driftfile /etc/ntp/drift server ntp1.unc.edu server ntp2.unc.edu ==== end ==== ==== /etc/ntp/step-tickers ==== ntp1.unc.edu ntp2.unc.edu ==== end ==== Make sure that xntpd or ntpd is set to start up sometime after the network but before most of your other daemons. At least with Red Hat Linux, the init script is already set up to hard synch against your step tickers with ntpdate and then ntpd takes over. If you don't do the ntpdate first, and your clock is too far off, ntpd will silently quit because the delta is too far outside of its ability to smooth. Chris Hedemark ..
