I was wondering if anyone has gotten any Linux certifications? I recently
picked up the Linux Professional Institute (http://www.lpi.org) level 1
certification. I am thinking about taking the Red Hat Certified Engineer
course and exam, but only if my employer agrees to pay for it.

IMHO, the RHCE is the only Linux cert that mainstream employers seem to care about. Even then, it unfortunately doesn't seem to carry the same weight as MCSE in the Windoze world.

My old LUG had an offer from LPI to do a cheap cert class and exam and they sort of dropped the ball on us. I don't think any real effort has been put into marketing the LPI cert and it shows when you look at the Help Wanted ads.

At any rate, right now I think the RHCE is the only Linux cert right now that carries any weight with employers.
