[PLUG] X screen resolution

Greetings,
  this may sound like a stupid question, but I normally don't use GUI with 
Linux.  I used to dealing with GUI on M$ Windows machines (as clients) and 
plain text on Linux (as servers).
  That said, here's my question:  can you easily change the screen 
resolution in X after system install?  (I guess the minimum is to change a 
config file and restart the X server...?)
