Hi Jon,

I will bring a set of Debian testing CD's to tomorrow night's meeting if you will be there.

Also I suggest a kernel compile that might work for you.

Leroy,

Thanks for the offer. I have been struggling with it all day.

My main problem is that my NIC (Intel PRO/1000 XT) is not being
recognized. Therefore I can't do a net install. I have CDs but they are
2.2.

I did install 2.2 and then downloaded the driver from Intel. When I tried
to compile the driver I got an error about version.h being missing. Some
addtional reading indicated that the source and the current config had to
match or it would not compile. So it looks like I hve to compile a kernel
just to get this driver to install.

Am I going about this the wrong way? It just seems that it should not be
this difficult.

Jon

Hi Jon,

There are a number of us on the PLUG list that will be happy to give you
any assistance that you may need. Some of us have been using Debian
since 94 and 95 with no the only problem being with major upgrades like
converting from potato to woody.

With the coming upgrade of testing to stable I feel that using testing
is a good option.

The end of an era?

Is for me. I am in the midst of installing Debian.

I know that they have the Fedora project, but I don't like how there is
no
stable version and that there is no easy, set in place way of upgrading
installed packages (ie, apt-get, up2date).

It's bumming me out and it's going to hurt a little, but I up for the
challenge.

Jon
