The message above seems to have been sent in ISO-8859-1, which doesn't 
handle Japanese text.  The Japanese plain-text above can be viewed by 
setting the encoding to EUC-JP.  If it were composed in UTF-8 I would 
have been able to view both English and Japanese without changing the 
encoding.

I believe my messages go out in UTF-8 now that that is my default.  It 
used to be ISO-8859-1.  Both send plain-text.  Both contain the standard 
ASCII characters.
