RE: [PLUG] Linksys and DSL

Oh, our setup didn't match his at all. We have ipcop firewalls in
several offices that control local DHCP across whatever local hub/switch
it present. In a couple places we have BEF series gear donated. One of
them is wireless so it's a real pain (they wanted to set it up after we
had the rest of the network up) since we didn't want to disrupt their
whole network. Our real problem was the a router was the wrong tool for
the job in those locations, similar/cheaper units would have done
better, but the Linksys docs tell you it can be dumbed down, it just
doesn't seem to want to behave that way.

Assuming you use the linksys widget as the router, why do you want to
pass DHCP requests across it? The router is the only device that should
be doing DHCP requests on Verizon's side of the network. Your internal
boxes should make their DHCP requests to the Router (that is, IF the
router is the DHCP server for your local lan, something that your Linux
box could also do).
