Re: [PLUG] [OT] DSL Advice

On 02 Jul, 2005, at 12:32, John Fiore intoned:
DCAnet uses Verizon in (all?) of University City.
I'm out of the Evergreen CO - 38th and Chestnut -
and have had the
DCAnet
DSL service since it was Bell Atlantic.

I am right now waiting for the upgrade to the 3.0
meg service from
my 1.5 M X 380 K old "InfoSpeed Pro" service
(historically classified
as business by DCAnet). The upgrade is scheduled for
the 5th, and
should "simply" be a CO change, one assumes its a
provisioning change.

Do you know if Verizon is doing this upgrade for all DSL customers (including those that are using Verizon as the ISP), or is this a special deal that DCANet is providing to its customers? I don't see anything advertised on DCANet or Verizon's homepage.

If I understand you right, $40/month for 3Mbps down is
a good deal especially for those of us in Philly who
won't see optical fiber for a long time.

No, I don't think so.

The service is talked about in this month's billing insert...
but if you don't read those inserts you won't hear about the
new service.

As with almost any company, Verizon's ability to "cross-sell"
to existing customers is virtually non-existent.

While the original upgrade to 1.5 meg was apparently done as a
purely technological upgrade. At least initially, the 3.0 upgrade
is apparently only being "offered" to new customers.

If you are an existing customer you have to ask for it.
However, I would guess that it is going to be denied unless
you have completed your original "term of service."

I read the insert and then called DCAnet, nobody ever contacted me.

The folks at DCAnet said that if I was looking for price, they could
not match the Verizon price because that is almost what Verizon
charges DCAnet for the same service. i.e. before DCA's profit margin.
