Not if you want the wife's Windows laptop to also be able to (easily) access the shared files as well. :-)

Agreed but the OP said nothing about needing windoze access. Besides NFS is still better for *nix to *nix connections. Even if you need to have samba for windoze. Even the samba docs recommend using NFS for *nix to *nix. I use NFS and the automounter wherever possible.

As with most of this stuff TIMTOWTDI. :-)
