Re: [PLUG] Linux Compatible Laptop

Hi guys. I figured I'd introduce myself briefly because I just got
around to subscribing to the PLUG list a week or so ago, and this is
my first posting. I'm a second-year grad student at Penn and an
experienced user of Linux and other Unices.

I'll third the Thinkpads. I've got a T43 and the only thing on it
that doesn't work is the modem. I've been on the linux-thinkpad
list since before the Lenovo takeover. There's always a little
frustration with vendors over Linux support (like ATI's imperfect
drivers, and IBM not releasing full specs for their ACPI
extensions), but overall I think IBM's been better than average.
Lenovo has been a little schizophrenic; first they announce no Linux
support, then they say SuSE is the official distro, etc. But all in
all, given the quality of the machines, the price, and the fact that
95% of it works perfectly, you really can't go wrong with a
thinkpad.
