I am trying to help a friend set up a new Compaq over the phone. I can't see his bios setup screens. The new computer has an internal firewire hard drive. I has two IDE slots. The DVD+-RW is connected to one. I installed his old IDE hard drive as a master on the other IDE slot. When he took it home and started it, it wants to boot from the IDE drive first, thus booting his old OS tuned for incompatible hardware. As he reads the bios screens to me, it seems he can change the boot sequence among the "floppy group", the "CD-Rom group" and the "HDD group", but he can find a setting to change the sequence within these groups. HP support would not help him and told him that the computer only supports HP drives. Does anyone have any experience changing the boot sequence on these Compaqs with internal firewire drives? I suppose if it can't be done we can re-install the OS and applications on the IDE drive and use the firewire drive for data. -- _____________________________________________________________ Art Alexion PGP fingerprint: 52A4 B10C AA73 096F A661 92D2 3B65 8EAC ACC5 BA7A Keyserver: hkp://subkeys.pgp.net The attachment - signature.asc - is my electronic signature; no need for alarm.
