Is it possible that what you're actually lacking/is broken is
xine[-lib]?

(This is the first I've heard of Kaffeine, but it appears to be Yet
Another KDE Wrapper for Other People's Stuff, and glancing over
http://kaffeine.sourceforge.net/index.php?page=faq suggests that it
uses xine-lib for a lot of things... but not if your distro decided
it didn't like their license.)
