I am running Slackware with the 2.6.27.7 kernel. Hibernation using the Klaptop GUI in KDE works perfectly..... sometimes. I have been trying to find a pattern to figure out what is wrong when it does not work, but no success for over a month. Things I thought about: USB devices attached? Swap space used, even if it was later released? Power cable plugged in, not plugged? All those things don't seem to matter. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not! Today I was fortunate enough to discover it was not working right after booting up. A great find, as I was doing little with the machine after booting it up. I have had hibernation work with lots of things running, and not work. Also the same with very little running. The hald verbose option does not seem to tell me anything. Here are the kernel logs and PM log from adm/messages. Whenever it does NOT work, the log shows me this list of processes I have running. Whenever it does work, a list of processes does not appear and PM shows me what it is doing. Anything obvious from this? When it does not work, the screen blanks out, and the machine is unusable for about 15 seconds (no disk usage light showing activity either), then comes right back in a usable state as if nothing had happened. When it does work, the screen blanks out, I can see the disk light as it is writing to disk, and hibernation is successful. Turning the machine back on works perfectly.
