I looked at Brother's product range a bit, and the DCP-7030 seems like 
the least expensive choice that's coupled with a laser printer (I don't 
want an inkjet):

I don't really need the printing function because I already have a laser 
printer, but it's an HP LJ4 so maybe I'll replace it (space is a 
concern).  I just hate to give up something that's so durable and reliable.
However, looking here, Brother doesn't list the DCP-7030 as one of their 
linux-supported models:
