Good ideas, but unfortunately, not in keeping with the background of the story. These aliens don't even consider humanity to be sentient. They kind of think of us like the cliche'd ranchers thought of wolves in the old west. We are a "pest" at best, and nothing more. If you were eradicating a particularly nasty infestation of field mice, how would you go about finding the physical weaknesses of those mice?
