Just putting a job offer out there. We're looking for a sysadmin with strong Linux skills that also has experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL databases. It's a 99% Linux & Open source environment.
Our ideal candidate would have a base of strong core Linux systems administration skills, but also bring to the table a specialization of open source database management skills. We will also consider candidates who have a specialization in networking instead of database, to include load balancing with Cisco ACE/F5's, cisco routers, VPN tunnel creation & maintenance, etc.

SENIOR SYSTEMS ADMINSTRATOR/Database
Vantage Learning is the leading provider of online writing instruction, online assessments and automated essay scoring services.
The Senior Systems Administrator will be a critical member of the team responsible for managing the systems and database platforms for our company's high volume web applications.
Responsibilities include:
Infrastructure planning.
Shared 24/7 Support of Systems/Infrastructure.
Database design, query tuning, replication and replication management using postgreSQL, limited MySQL, and rarely MS SQL.
LINUX/UNIX Systems Administration and Tuning: Red Hat AS/Centos based platforms.
Performance Tuning and Analysis: measuring and tuning to facilitate increased concurrent usage.
Hardware Infrastructure Support: EMC SAN, DELL/Sun Servers, Load Balancers, Routers.
Information security at all levels (Database, system, application, etc).
Systems Level Database administration and performance optimization.
High Volume Web Site Management. Includes load balancing (F5 BigIP), Apache2 management and customization.
Qualifications include:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience or a Degree in MIS or related field required.
Ability to respond to after-hours maintenance, both scheduled and unscheduled.
Strong knowledge and a demonstrated history of hands-on work with open-source database platforms and SQL.
Problem solving ability. The ability to investigate, analyze, measure, and draw definitive conclusions when required.
Experience with Linux Systems administration skills to include installation, troubleshooting, and configuring numerous frequently used back-end services.
Understanding of common protocols and services as they relate to a multi-tiered web application stack.
Familiarity with TCP/IP internetworking fundamentals to include switches, routers, and load balancing equipment.
Familiarity with virtualized environments is desirable.
Experience with high volume web site management preferred.
Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work well in a fast paced team environment.
