Re: [PLUG] Easiest QoS/Router/Connection-trunking distro at this point? |
This probably isn't the "easy" solution but for a number of years I used to keep hardware around to build spare routers running the Slax live CD. Its a variant of Slackware. He could store the routing and any other config data on the internal hard drive and call them from there. If this person is not familiar with Linux this would probably be too much for him. If they are then I'll add that you could also re-author the iso and a create permanent router image :) http://www.slax.org/ I still keep a CD with me for when my usb flash or hd drives don't boot. Slax or Backtrack (which a security distro but I find its well suited to building routers and network security nodes). ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Keith C. Perry, MS E.E. Howdy all, I've got a buddy who's cursed with two sub-par rural ISPs. He's looking to try to trunk the two connections so that he can run a single wifi connection but eg route Netflix over one ISP while his poor SSH sessions can trot along unimpeded. Used to be I'd recommend Astaro, but that apparently went poof years ago. So, who's got a strong rec for an easy to admin router distro these days that one can run on an old PC? -- Doug Stewart ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug ___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
