Re: [PLUG] systemd presentation

Well done on the fly to the rest of us but I think Chris probably had planned it :)

Either way the entire process was smooth.  I compile ffmpeg but the credit really has to be given to whatever phone Chris was using because the source was already very clear.  The issue I've had in the past is G+ dithering my processed videos but apparently HD recordings (1080p this time) are not touched.

Either way, we're good to good for future recordings  :D?

Love that we are recording.. this is great. I'm assuming this was done on the fly so all considered, fantastic. The quality is great.. our little phones do a good job. (this is a phone, no?)

Now some small notes. I can say the obvious like put it on a tripod, but no one wants to lug around a tripod. So just some way to bring it UP. (I know you cannot bring it forward to avoid Mr Green and Mr Red, but the tops of their heads would be better.. they take up too much real estate) But would rather have this than not recording at all.

Also - and this might not be needed if the camera phone is stable - but passing the video through youtube's video stabilization does wonders to a video. IF the video moves a lot, it attempts to figure it all out and crop to something that works. When I record my daughter while walking or something I make sure to leave fat borders around her so that she is not cropped out of the stabilized video. If you have a video that moves a lot and is already uploaded to youtube you can try it out right now. Just go to your video upload page and look for the effect. Takes some time to process but it also (if I remember correctly) does not delete the original.. so you can go back.

Good news!  Ok so that worked out pretty well.  G+ didn't dither this file to any meaningful amount so without further ado:

This is publically accessible so you don't have to be a G+ member to view the communities or watch the video.

I'm thinking for the time being we should just post to the G+ community unless people feel strongly about using YouTube.

I get very good mp4 renderings for the screencasts I do and then upload to my server for streaming with a video player I wrote using jwplayer.  G+ seems to dither them down but from what I remember, I spec'd it based on YouTube requirements.

I'll have to confirm by uploading this video on the YouTube channel I set up.  Go point about the credentials.  That's where G+ has an advantage, any community member can upload content.

Yeah, the video quality in my youtube recording was definitely spotty
when I tried it.

If somebody wants to live broadcast they're welcome to do so, but I'd
prioritize doing an offline recording and uploading it later.

Note that only somebody with access to the official youtube channel
can upload there.  I don't know if you can grant access to other
youtube users to upload to a channel, vs having to share passwords/etc
(which is obviously undesirable).  For anything I record I can easily
just host it on my webserver for somebody else to download/publish.
I'd prefer not to keep hundreds of GB online forever though.
