I was thinking about getting my kid an he stream or chromebook soon and putting Ubuntu on it(leaning more towards the stream.
Chromebooks and crouton are another great way to go, particularly if you want to run off encrypted usb media or swap them out for particular tasks (edubuntu, arch assault).
