Re: [PLUG] Looking for help with Chrome on lubuntu 14.04 trusty i386

I'll just note that I didn't say anyone was my enemy, or your enemy, and I'll just slip out now because I see someone over there that I need to talk to. Bye!

"Perceiving"another OS as the "enemy" is just as bad. I don't "perceive" of people who use any specific OS as an "enemy". They're not even an "adversary". Thinking or perceiving that way is the problem.

Doesn't matter if it's Windows people doing it to Mac people, or Linux people doing it to Windows people (which is what you would see on this list, obviously, as it is Linux-centric and focused).

Not joining in that mindset is how it starts to go away ...

So you're taking my reply out of context, which isn't polite. You said, and I quote: "I'm on a couple Windows lists for work, and I never see any similar remarks about other OSes, Linux or otherwise." And I replied "Oh, right, because Windows users never bash on Mac people?".

Now, I'm contradicting you, but that's because I don't feel you are correct. I'm on a lot of Windows-centric sites and lists as well, and they *love* to talk down on "Crapples" and the fools who buy them. I don't agree, since I use a Mac at work and own a few at home, but being a Penguin person, I don't generally participate in such fights.

"It's all about the perceived enemy, and most Windows users aren't really aware of Linux." "No, that's where you're wrong. There is no "enemy". That's the point."

I never said there was an enemy. And that's not the point. It's about the *perceived enemy*. You can be my friend, but arguing with me, and at that moment you are *perceived* as an enemy, or at least an adversary. Generally, Windows users see Apple as "the enemy", who are complicating their world by stubbornly not acknowledging the greatness of Windows and joining One Folk, One Empire, One Windows. They generally aren't aware of Linux at all, or think of it as some awkward fork of DOS that's popular on servers for no sane reason.

We know differently, but often we don't care to try and educate angry crowds of Windows people. It's all just perspective and perception.

I wasn't speaking of Mac users, you're changing the subject. :-)

No, that's where you're wrong. There is no "enemy". That's the point.

And yes, Windows people who disparage Macs without knowing anything about that OS are just as wrong. But how does someone else doing something wrong have any bearing on what we are talking about?
