I am also just getting familiar with Windows 10.

As others have mentioned, you can use a local account and not have to 
sign in with MS.

Another common complaint is the forced updates--you can't turn updates 
off, only postpone them.  What you *can* do is disable the Windows 
Update service.  Then either turn it on periodically when you want it to 
update, or use WSUSoffline (http://wsusoffline.net/)
