Re: [PLUG] File System Corruption |
The market has always been flooded with refurbished computers of all kinds (laptops, workstations, servers...). I think that repair makes sense for some more durable goods (like autos and appliances), but I wouldn't really ever bother to repair a computer. It's cheap enough to just grab another refurbished computer, especially because you're almost always going to get a significant upgrade at the same time. I also prefer to live with a bunch of disposable computers... It makes travel much easier (You don't have to worry about something happening to a laptop). It makes stuff around the house easier (I have at least one computer on each floor of my house). And, at the same time, you are getting more use out of hardware that would otherwise have been thrown out/recycled.
And to all of you who do buy new computers: Thank you for keeping computer hardware so cheap for the rest of us!

Even if I have to toss the Yoga in a few years, it still seems like the better deal because I'll have deferred half the expense for years, and the replacement will be superior. The Yoga also has a better form factor for what I want. This seems like a brutal market to get into, with laptops being so integrated, and the hardware depreciating so quickly. I applaud what they're trying to do, really I do. I just find it hard to spend double the price.
