That sounds a bit like the problems I had several times when attempting
to "upgrade" from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 LPIA on my Mini9. I've since
learned that 9.10 LPIA was an atrocity, and LPIA is dropped entirely for
10.04:

So my problem manifested more with apt/aptitude than RO files systems,
though IIRC I had those too. I suspect my problems were: a) 9.10 LPIA
b) ext4 (possibly related to SSD) or c) both. Maybe these threads will
help?

"Microsoft Tax" = the additional hardware & yearly fees for the add-on
software required to protect Windows from its own poorly designed and
implemented self, while the overhead incidentally flattens Moore's Law.
