Hello all,

I have managed to think about the talk a little further, and I think I have a
better feel for the topics I would like to cover. I will try to discuss most
things that matter to Perl hackers on Win32, including the following:

Differences in the Windows platforms and the incestuous Windows family tree
Packaged distributions vs. compiling Perl itself
CPAN - If I build it, will it work?
 - Setting up a proper build environment
Everything generates warnings
Those pesky backslashes - Paths and cross-platform compatibility
Opportunities for Perl on Win32
 - Sys Admin
 - Good code lying around, but tricky interfaces, but a few Perl
hackers have made good inroads into these. (OLE, etc)
Apache and Internet Information Server
OLE and Windows Scripting Host
 - Possibly Perl's place in .NET
The registry (a little)
Cool stuff about the NT Command shell to make *NIX hackers happier
WinNT/98 as development platforms

This is by no means a finalized nor exhaustive list. I would be more than
happy to add/remove topics or change some of the focuses of my talk based
on what you guys think is cool/lame/boring/exciting. If you would like to
hear about a topic, just send a note about it to the group, and I will do my
best to get enough info together about it to be useful. Most of the topics
above will be discussed rather briefly, and could be expanded on to their own
talks later, or be focused on more than others. (The webserver stuff and OLE
are good candidates for this at the moment.)

Please note that I will barely address Windows Millennium and Windows 2000. I
have not spent any significant amount of time on these platforms, and I have
no machines running them to hack. My primary research platform will be WinNT,
but I will address Win95/98 to some extent too.

And I will commit to giving this talk on the 8th. : )

Thank you for your time,

Sean.

PS - Although this originates from my work email (roleary@metalsusa.com) I
would prefer you contact me through the list or my personal email
(soleary@erols.com). Thanks!
