Hi martin, We certainly would greatly enjoy your presence at the plug meeting. Configuring X, especially to a new user is a daunting task. Not only do you have to set up an XF86config file, but you also have to configure and choose a window manager. Also every distribution puts the configuration files in a different place. The trick is to know the name of the file that you are looking for and use locate or find to find it for you. /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config /etc/X11/XF86Config On mysystem the /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config is a symbolic link to /etc/X11/XF86Config making sure that all config files are somewhere in the /etc directory. We already have spent several meetings discussing the ramifications of X configuration. But as the group grows, we will continue to discuss topics that have already been presented. Also there is always continual improvements in X free 86 and the various window managers. Also now there is the gnome project that is expediting and growing. For the most part global configuration files can be found in the /etc directory. I hope that this discussion has been helpful and hope to meet you soon. -- 0 0 L & R Associates " Home Page: http://www.netaxs.com/~ldc/ _______ooO ~ Ooo_______________________________________________ LeRoy D.
