Well I guess I have been lucky - I have used voicenet since winter of 93/94 and have had no major complaints - I have a shell account that i can get to no matter where I am, when I had a problem using pine on thier server even tho it was not supported the gave me a few suggstions to get around the problem. I now live in the poconos and wish I had a local pop for voicenet because the ISP (epix.net) has the worst service I have ever seen basically it is a spin off of the phone company and they have no clue. It is best described as " Hey we can make money at this ISP thing too!!". But with threads like this "Your Milage May Vary" My $.02 Drew On Tue, 24 Aug 1999, Tracy Nelson wrote: > Aaron Brown wrote: > > > I have been using Voicenet for 2 years now, and never had a problem with > > them, there was the outages once in a while, but that you will get > > everywhere. > > I was a Voicenet user for a couple of years (again, about three years ago). They had a lame news feed, poor e-mail service (there's *no* *reason* to lose e-mail in a store-and-forward environment!) and the kicker was when they lost one of their drives which had users directories on it and sent out e-mail saying, "Hope you all had backups, because we don't!". Totally unacceptable behavior. > > I moved to Fastnet after that. The first time I called tech support was the first time I installed Linux. It was around 1:30AM and I got a guy on the line who told me "Well, we don't officially support Linux" and then proceeded to tell me how to configure PPP, set up my hosts.allow/.deny files, configure Netscape and pointed me at Slashdot and Freshmeat. *Far* above and beyond the call, IMHO. > > -- Tracy Nelson > > > _______________________________________________ > Plug maillist - Plug@lists.nothinbut.net > http://lists.nothinbut.net/mail/listinfo/plug > _______________________________________________ Plug maillist - Plug@lists.nothinbut.net http://lists.nothinbut.net/mail/listinfo/plug
