(Raises hand) tunnelv, here.  It's not exactly a drop-in-and-go type of
solution.  OTOH, if you have time and set it up, it's pretty easy; you
just talk to the remote side, and the Right Thing is done automatically.  
(You must have support for the ethertap device in your kernel.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's not quite as simple to run as
ssh(d), and that it isn't nearly as ubiquitous.  I'd probably go for
port forwarding over ssh.
