The state of Java-via-web is really horrendous, with Sun's
(technically official, I guess) JVM in the background and each of
Microsoft's, Netscape's, and Apple's JVMs all vying to be "right".

You might try some *other* web pages with heavy Java use to see if
the plugin is bombing Mozilla or just something evil in that web
page.
