There's actually wider (just less frequently accelerated) video card support in XF86 3. (4 is being completely rewritten in a lot of ways.) Well, check that model support page I sent, I guess, and see if your video chipset is (better?) supported in XF86 4. > This brings up a question that I also have for the kernel: how do I > tell apt that I want a version other than the one it thinks is right? > I wouldn't mind getting X4 if that will help, and I'd be pretty > interested in a 2.4 kernel, especially if I can type "apt-get ..." and > have it happen. Not too sure about X, but you pretty much *don't* want to apt-get a kernel since, once you're setting up a kernel specific to your system, you also want to tune a variety of other things in the kernel configuration. Download the kernel source and read the documentation. It's not all that difficult, and you're likely to get better performance out of the system if you do it right. -- ~ g r @ eclipsed.net ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
