[PLUG] pop3 server?

hey all. I want to run a mail server on my box, and am having a hard time 
finding a pop server... or if I actually have one installed, starting it. i 
feel like such a tool asking this, but any thoughts? its a rather beginner 
question but nonetheless i cannot find even a howto on it... (links 
appreciated). Also, if anyone has a preference between pop and imap, please 
lemme know.
