Sprint has a similar program, except I think it distributes the phone to a wider range -- includes elderly, town watch groups, etc. I think there are a lot of programs like this. I also found out -- by accident -- that a deactivated Sprint phone can make regular calls -- at an exorbitant price -- using a credit card. But in an emergency, when a pay phone is not an alternative...
