this sounds suspiciously like a bug i reported a while back which hasn't
yet been fully addressed.  check out:

and let me know if that fixes your problem.  if it does, i'd appreciate
if you could add a "me too" followup to the bug as the maintainers of
the kernel/hotplug/modutils don't seem all that convinced.
