Maybe that's because everyone uses LaTeX instead of plain TeX? :)

Actually, I asked her about "TeX" because I knew how it was pronounced, "Tek." I don't know if LaTex is "lay-tek" or "lah-tek.:

Neither of which is relevant to the question I originally asked about what text processing extant on Linux are preferred for technical writing.
