I started to get pain in the back of my wrists, corresponding to time spent with my friend, the computer. A wrist specialist brought it all together by diagnosing me with sinovitis (inflammation of sinovial fluid - my dog diagnosed me first). Wrong side of wrist for carpal tunnel (yay). I use ergo kbds exclusively (except this bleedin' laptop). Chiro suggested wrapping 2-3" ace bandage on forearm right below elbow (not wrist) and leave for a few days. This worked. Anti-inflammatories can help (and eat your stomach). I have a mouse I refer to as a `ring mouse' which is a micro trackball that goes on a finger like a ring. You use your thumb to move the ball. There are different trackballs too, plus joysticks. You can get kbds that simply project onto a flat surface (orig for Palms). Others have various degrees of angle via bending at the middle. You can get a roll-up kbd that is just a small pad of rubber. There's another mouse that resembles a mouse on its side, attached to a cast. You move your entire arm. Comes in lefty and backwards (right-handed). MS used to have a lefty ergo mouse but dumped it. The remaining one or two, if you're a lefty, are very expensive. All in all, we haven't progressed seriously on our alternative input devices.
