SonyEricsson did that five years ago, they just have lousier marketing than Apple, as difficult as that is to wrap one's head around.

It's not just marketing... It's interface design for SE. My previous 2 phones were SE, the s710 was the last before my iPhone and it was a good phone. although the 5-10 key presses to get to half the features were annoying... course as I hear it now music playing is more annoying now that its just 1 button press away instead of a dozen... Allot of accidental music playing. I'd love to see the phone completely open but I will deal if the rumored oct 15th sdk announcement is true. I'll take some access over none. Currently I'm quite happy with my iPhone. Especially with tweeked myth2ipod scripts for my wifes ipod and my iphone. Nice having last nights tv waiting for me on my phone every morning.
Speaking about speeds. Edge was more then fast enough before the iPhone launch for me but in the area I use the phone, service has gone down in quality since. since 3g rollout is looking far off, waiting for a 3g iPhone wasn't an option. Official word is maybe begining of 08 for rollout to where it would usable for me, but an at&t rep told me not to hold my breath that I would get 3g service in 08.
