Not planning to do anything out of the ordinary with the macbook.
Just use it to play vids, pictures, and surf the web. Also, to use it to connect to work, which uses a Java based interface.

However, I would like to have atleast 2GB. I want to get 1GB at first, and upgrade later.

When is leapord supposed to come out? I want something latest, since I am spending close to $1500. should I get the Apple extended warranty, is it worth it?

I think the macbooks prefer to have the ram in pairs and the black model is just a cool tax. $125 extra for another color... I just wanted to point that out since you mentioned a $1499 price point. You can get the 2gb kit from crucial for $79.99 and probably can get it for less if you look around.

Leopard should be out by the end of the month. Rumors point to the 26th. For laptops you should always go the extended warranty route. If something fails it can get quite pricey. You may never need it but its nice to have that safety net. Nothing like 500-800 to replace the main board out of warranty. Currently there are some rumors of a very slight macbook upgrade coming out very shortly. Memory upgrades are a breeze.
Presently have religious holiday marked on the work calendar for the 26th (actually is says "ed attempts to catch a leopard")
