Jeff,

Any chance you accidentally bumped the toolbar dropdown filter
that says to show only unread messages instead of all messages?
That would explain why reading it marks it as read, and hides it's
summary line from view.

When you open then, there's no text, but when you reply, the text
is quoted?  Sounds like a style issue.  Maybe the "no text" is
white text on a white background, and the quoted text uses another
color?
