Where I found it really handy (since we had some laying around) was with
an older KVM switcher - Doing a PS/2 to USB only kinda worked (the optical
mouse light blinked, which I found to indicate that it wasn't communicating
when the light was off).  Using "real" PS/2 got rid of the problem.

It might also be worth it if you need "real" serial, too; there was a 
discussion on here a few months back about how USB was inadequate for some
applications (involving stepper motors, iirc?).
