Yeah, Amazon did it exactly right.
1.  Write an API that a program can use
2.  Write small CLI wrappers that call the API, so they can be called
     from the command line or from scripts/batch files.
3.  Write a GUI interface that calls the API:
            https://console.aws.amazon.com

Do NOT skip step 1 like Microsoft did when they created their
bonehead "shortcuts" that are only available from the GUI, not
from the CLI or an API.
