For future reference, here's how I ended up doing it: 1. Set the modem to bridge mode 2. Plugged ethernet cable from modem to my old dd-wrt router 3. Connected my laptop to dd-wrt via wifi to monitor it 4. DD-WRT was showing an IP address of 0.0.0.0 5. Rebooted both the modem and dd-wrt several times until dd-wrt showed a proper IP 6. Plugged in an ethernet cable from my Ubuntu box to dd-wrt 7. Ran "sudo systemctl restart networking.service" on Ubuntu 8. Updated my DNS entries and waited for them to propagate. Rebooting the modem was one thing I hadn't tried yesterday, so that seems like it may have been important. The DNS issues I was having (which turn out to be due to "NAT loopback") are all working as they were with my old modem. Thanks to Jonathan Simpson for suggesting rebooting, and for everyone else who offered suggestions both here, on the IRC channel, and at West last night! Walt
