Re: [PLUG] [plug-announce] Tue Aug 9 - PLUG North - "An introductory guide to running your own mail server" by Andrew Denner (7pm EDT online)

Well let's keep things very simple and clear. Init system debates and discussions have plagued many mailing lists and other discussions for years, it's time to not bring it up immediately and all the time. If you choose to not use systemd now, you are the outlier and please be aware of the init discussion fatigue. But more specifically, init system discussions are irrelevant when you see Podman or Docker in the topic summary making your specific question out of scope.

Finally, the presenter is not on the mailing list. Feel free to look at your distro of choice for availability ONLY if you plan on running the solution yourself without using a container solution. If container solutions are not interesting, assume the questions maybe out of scope for the presenter.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. If a piece of application software requires
jumping through incredible hoops to work without systemd, which I don't have, then
I'm not interested in that software. Why would I bang my head against the wall
trying to use software that won't run on my computer?

When I say "won't run on my computer", I don't mean "doesn't have a runit run
script". I can make the proper run script in 15 minutes using the software's man
page.

I'm incredibly comfortable with my init system, runit. I'm so in love with runit
that my wife is jealous.
